Wood Sculpture
While out walking one day, Sabin felt compelled to harvest a few live juniper branches and bring them home. He began whittling animal images with a folding pocket knife. “I have always been fascinated by hand held ritual implements,” Sabin recalls, “and I soon realized that I was creating such implements for my own healing process. For the first time Sabin found himself creating work in three dimensions, carving from juniper wood and making tools to represent the spirit animals with whom he communed: raven, owl, bear, coyote, mountain lion, and hawk. This was Sabin’s early cast of characters, and these forms persist to this day. These early works remain in Sabin’s personal collection.
Current works available for purchase at Mockingbird Gallery and Stonington Gallery.
